A family affair

The story begins in 1982, when the father of the three brothers, Doumé’s , arrived in Les Deux Alpes as a mid-mountain guide. Ten years later, he opened his first restaurant, nicknamed “Le cours de la vie” in Venosc. A pretty little mountain village located at the foot of the Deux Alpes , accessible by car and by cable car from the resort.

But it all began on January 6, 2001, when he bought the former Hôtel le Pelvoux, which he renamed with his nickname. These are his three children, three beautiful boys, who 14 years later, all enriched with various experiences, will choose to take over the reins of the family business in 2015.
La Guinguette was created the same year, as was La Brasserie des Ecrins. The Refuge des Glaciers will follow, followed by the takeover of the Hôtel Pied Moutet renamed Le Doumé’s Lodge in 2020.

The adventure goes on

In 2021, the three brothers are expanding their network and moving to the Matheysin plateau to take over the management of the brand new restaurant of the Petit Train de la Mure, Le Panoramique. After eleven years of absence, the Little Red Train, defined as “the most beautiful line in the Alps”, is resuming its activity.

As a reminder, the latter had definitively closed its line following a landslide on the track in 2010. This rehabilitation project is a heritage, historical and tourist project, proudly carried by the Auvergne Rhône Alpes region and the Department of Isère. In close collaboration with the Édeis group. Maison Durand is happy to be able to contribute to this historic renaissance by operating its restaurant, accessible by train only.

It is therefore since 1992 that the Durand family has shared its passion for the mountains and local know-how in the Deux Alpes resort as elsewhere.
